He believed that this was a deliberate act on his part but when he sees the incredible community that faith has built both in his home town and in Henry's part of the city of Detroit, he comes to realize that faith and community are sometimes one and the same thing. Mitch realizes that he does not really have a community of friends but rather a series of acquaintances with whom he exchanges the basic brief texts and emails of friendly interest. Whatever stage of faith any of the people in the memoir is at, the overwhelming theme is that of the importance of faith, and that through faith, all things are possible. The author, Mitch Albom, is struggling with his faith, having lost it as a young man, and almost rejected it, and during the course of the book, finding it again. Despite their different paths in life, both men had a solid and unshakeable faith from an early age. Both of the main characters, Rabbi Albert, and Pastor Henry, are men of great faith, which has helped them through all of the difficult times in their lives and enabled them to carry out what they know to be their mission on earth. The title of the book is "Have A Little Faith", and faith, in all its shapes and forms, is the central and unifying theme within. When Shift and Rishda set up the notion that "Tashlan" is in a stable, Emeth insists on seeing Tash with his own eyes. While welcoming the chance to distinguish himself in battle, Emeth is troubled by the "lies and trickery" used to portray Aslan as the Narnian version of the Calormene deity Tash. This is part of a conspiracy to seize the north of the country by using the Narnians' faith in a false Aslan controlled by the ape Shift. Story Įmeth is a young Calormene officer, second in command of a detachment of the Tisroc's soldiers under Rishda Tarkaan, who enter Narnia in the guise of merchants. Simmons’ universe is still as exotic as it was three novels ago, and his characters are as varied and colorful as always. It’s a very complicated web Simmons has woven, and much of its unraveling was quite fascinating reading and generally successful. It was basically the story of Aenea’s revolution against the Pax, but it also attempted to tie up all the loose ends left over from the first three novels, loose ends involving the relationship between the TechnoCore–which, although considered destroyed at the end of Fall was revealed as still in existence, merely removed from the visible affairs of humanity–the identity of the Shrike, the fates of characters left dangling as far back as the pilgrimage to Hyperion, the true origin of Aenea, and, finally, the fate of the Pax, the Ousters, and all the other remaining elements of humanity scattered throughout the former Hegemeny. While he did not succeed, his aim was high enough that even with the novel’s flaws–and some of them were considerable–there were still enough of Simmons’ strengths that the novel was worthwhile overall. In The Rise of Endymion Dan Simmons obviously tried to write an epic equal in scope and complexity to The Fall of Hyperion. I am so lucky, so grateful, and so ready to work hard and chase those dreams. Being a writer isn’t always easy and I could have chosen plenty of less challenging career paths, but I’ve only ever received constant encouragement from the people I’m surrounded by and I couldn’t ask for more. I want to thank Clare, my family, friends, and anybody else who has supported my work thus far. I will still be releasing novellas with Bryant Street Shorts as part of my freelance work, but I’m so excited to move forward in my career with new experiences and new stories to write with a talented agent by my side. Being a successfully published author has been my dream for a long, long time and it feels surreal to know I’m one step closer to getting there! I am so proud of my northern roots, and so I couldn’t think of a better home for my stories than an agency that works hard to uplift the voices of northern authors. I am incredibly fortunate to have found an agent like Clare who loves my LGBT+ contemporary rom-com, Honeymoon for One, as much as I do, and cannot wait to see where this amazing opportunity will lead. The last couple of weeks have been the most exciting of my life – and I haven’t even left the house!
